WRITER

“Positive statement. Ringing affirmative. I’m a writer.”

The title of writer is more than a label of identity, rather a resounding affirmation and declaration of self. Boldly embracing an identity that fosters growth, rather than shying away from it, is easier said than done.

Fully embracing the role of a writer was a journey marked by the familiar wrestle with imposter syndrome. As a child, I crafted tales of fantasy and perfect, mundane scenarios - word-based creativity was always my preferred mode of creative expression. Yet, the weight of imposter syndrome and raw emotion being judged haunted my decision to opt-out of creative writing modules at university, keeping my notes and narratives tucked away, unpublished.

The act of free journaling looped back around when faced with trauma and crises. While immensely rewarding and cathartic, initially it felt daunting. The fear of baring one’s innermost thoughts onto a blank page can be paralyzing and the opposite of a fun task. However, over time, I’ve discovered no better method of untangling the complexities of my mind and crafting an escape route for my angled thoughts to shape my reality and scenarios I am handed.

This journal is a testmanent towards unlocking creative expression. It stands visible to others, open to interpretations and critiques, yet quietly subdued in its promotion.

There’s an unmatched liberation in discovering this home for free thoughts, no longer private but readable by others. In sharing this, I hope others can embark on a similar journey to find their equivalent; their own space for unrestrained expression and creative solace.

We cannot help but be read by others; a raw form of expression allows our genuine self to be compatible with others.

Inevitably, our true selves are read by others; authentic expression creates a resonance, making our genuine selves relatable to others.
